“Even how the media responded to Kimani Gray was sort of like, ‘You’re not supposed to get up and do anything.’ They kept talking about young people were rebelling and wiling out, but it’s like, ‘You shot my friend in his back while he was on the ground!’ What did you expect people to do? Those young people reacted, to me, rationally and sanely because they’re outraged that their friend was murdered.
Yva needs our help until she can again make her living playing music. Hello loving community: Our dear one, Yva Las Vegass, has had an accident where her left hand was crushed in a door, her 4th metacarpal bone was fractured. In order for it to heal it must be immobile. Because Yva already has carpal tunnel syndrome & arthritis, this injury is complicating existing conditions. This would be a terrible injury for anyone of course but particularly traumatic for a working musician. On top of the emotional hardship she faces by not being able to play music during the healing period, and the disappointment of the community being temporarily without the music of our favorite folk singer, girl needs to eat. We’re asking for the community’s help during her recovery. We’re asking for help covering Yva’s bare-bones living expenses over the next two months.
I interviewed the Malportado Kids for Impose and it was fun and fantastic. My favorite was probably when Victoria said, “If [white hippies] met my family, they’d probably expect to be greeted by a small Indigenous woman who talks about why we should fight. Like, that’s not my mom. My mom goes to Target.”
I go to Target for their $4 generic pharmaceuticals ¬¬
